CID questions Sri Lankan government minister over death of Presidential Advisor

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday questioned National Languages and Integration Minister of Sri Lanka Vasudeva Nanayakkara over an alleged statement made by him regarding the murder of Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra.

Nanayakkara has said that the CID had asked him if he had more information to back the statement made during a press conference after Premachandra's death.

According to Nanayakkara, he had informed the CID that he did not have any more information about the matter.

Addressing a media briefing last week, Nanayakkara had said that Premachandra's funeral would not end until the conspiracy behind the killing was exposed.

He had also said at the press briefing, "We believe that Bharatha's assassination was due to a personal grudge. He is one of those who fearlessly fought against violence and against communal politics."
