5 Lankans arrested over fake credit card racket

The CID has arrested a group of Sri Lankans who are members of an international racket that has robed millions of rupees by using fake credit cards.

The five men, led by a computer engineer from Batticaloa identified as Dharan, were remanded until May 13 by the Mount Lavinia magistrate.

The CID began the probe on complaints received by three private banks.

The computer engineer had imported two machines to print fake credit cards.

The other suspects are three Muslims and a Tamil, who had used fake credit cards at ATM machines located at several filling stations to draw money.

They had acquired information through employees of a certain website, who had been paid around Rs. one million a month.

The racket had been going on for around two years, with others getting involved from countries such as England, France, Canada, US and Germany.
