Now, Mahela and Selectors resign!

First it was Kumar Sangakkara who announced his retirement from the ODI and T-20 team captaincy.

Yesterday, the selection committee, headed by former Sri Lanka captain Aravinda de Silva, handed in its resignation to the sports minister. The committee, that was appointed on May 26, 2010, included Ranjit Fernando, Amal Silva and Azwer Ali.

And, in yet another unexpected move, Mahela Jayawardene has also stepped down as the team's vice-captain. Jayawardene was Sri Lanka's captain before Sangakkara took over in February 2009.

"I think it's time to move on, give the reins to someone younger in the team," Jayawardene was quoted as having told AFP.

SLC chairman D. S. de Silva said the governing body had accepted Jayawardene's resignation. "The selectors will sit down in the next two to three days to choose a captain and vice-captain," D. S. de Silva was quoted as having said.
