Sri Lanka Cricket mulls touring Pakistan two years after attack on the team

Two year after the attack on Sri Lankan Cricket team in Lahore, Sri Lanka Cricket is considering to tour Pakistan later this year ending the country's isolation from international cricket, media reports said Wednesday.

Sri Lanka Cricket chairman Somachandra de Silva has told media that they are discussing with the International Cricket Council's Pakistan Task Team (PTT) the possibility of touring Pakistan again probably in October.

De Silva has said that the discussions are ongoing with the ICC and with the board members.

"There are still some security concerns in Pakistan but as things improve, and Pakistan is a brotherly nation, we can consider it - all depends on the ICC's clearance," De Silva was quoted by Pakistan Times.

The visiting Sri Lankan team came under a terrorist attack in Lahore when they were on the way to the Gaddafi Stadium to play the third day of the second Test match on March 03, 2009.

A total of seven players and team's British assistant coach, Paul Farbrace were injured in the attack, which also left eight Pakistani security officers dead.

Sri Lanka is scheduled to tour Pakistan in October this year under the Future Tests Programme. Both Sri Lankan and Pakistani governments are holding discussions on Pakistan hosting the event. De Silva said their tour will depend on the clearance given by the ICC.
