Sri Lanka prepares for Cricket World Cup 2011

 Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa along with the national cricket team members inaugurated the "World Cup Glory Expressed" a procession in preparation for the upcoming Cricket World Cup 2011 next month.

The procession, started from Colombo at Temple Trees yesterday, will march through the country over the next few weeks and end at the Hambanthota Sooriyawewa International Stadium.
 
Sri Lanka along with India and Bangladesh will host the World Cup. Including a semi final, Sri Lanka will host 12 matches at three venues in Colombo, Pallekele, and Hambanthota beginning February 20 till April 1.
 
Sri Lanka yesterday named the final 15-member World Cup squad with Kumar Sangakkara as the Captain and Mahela Jayawardena who led the team in 2007 world Cup as Sangakkara's deputy.
 
Sri Lanka's legendary spinner Muttiah Muralitharan who retired from Test cricket in last July will be the only returning player from the 1996 World Cup winning team.
 
Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Secretary to the Ministry of Sports Udaya Ranjith, Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket D.S de Silva, and the committee members of the Sri Lanka Cricket were present.
