AFC Vice President Manilal Fernando, a Sri Lankan, said after the end of the civil war last year, he wanted an event that would showcase the country to the world.

Sri Lanka is at peace now and I wanted to get the message across to the world, especially people in Asia, that we are a country which is beautiful and we have smiling people, Fernando told.

The tournament features eight teams who will battle it out for the top prize, which is a place at next years AFC Asian Cup in Qatar.
