Survey to be conducted to accelerate resettlement process

A social survey is to be conducted jointly by the Government and UN agencies to assess the requirements with regard to accelerated resettlement in the North.

The decision to conduct the survey was taken during the meeting held by the Task Force on Resettlement of Protracted IDPs in the Northern Province.

Co chairs of this Task Force, Minister of Prison Reforms, Resettlement, Rehabilitation and Hindu Religious Affairs D.M.Swaminathan, Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishard Bathiudeen and Minister of Agriculture Duminda Dissanayake were present at the meeting.

Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Faizer Mustapha is also a co chair of this Task Force.

Senior officials of the relevant ministries including National policies and economic affairs, housing and construction and the Department of National Budget also participated in the meeting.

The meeting focused on addressing the urgent Infrastructure requirements, housing requirements and maintenance of Hospitals and Schools which would benefit the IDPs.
